Spring Entryway

I’ve finally finished decorating my entryway space so I wanted to pop on and share it with you all! We’ve been in this house for nearly a year now and this is just now getting done… But here we are! Better late than never. It really didn’t bother me much until after the Christmas tree came down. Then it really was looking empty and sad. We kind of have a funky shaped entry space. It’s actually more in the middle of our house than it is at the “entry.” As you walk into our home, the dining room is directly to your right and the formal living room (soon to be enclosed office) is on your left. The staircase begins after these two rooms and that’s really where the entryway space is. Because our staircase is curved, so is one of our walls in the entryway. The other side is long and straight, so it was a little complicated finding furniture that worked. This is probably hard to visualize, so let’s get to the photos!

Hopefully these help provide a better visual reference. Now for the fun stuff, the links!

Let’s start with the furniture. If you’ve been here for any length of time then you know exactly where these pieces are from – Home Source! Like the majority of the furniture in my house, these pieces are from Home Source Furniture. We’ve actually had the large console table for a couple of years now and I love the finish. We just added the smaller chest to the space in January and it is in the same Salvaged Grey finish. I really wanted the finishes to coordinate since they would be right across one another in the space. This is actually categorized as a night stand on their website, but it is definitely taller than your average night stand. Because the wall is curved we needed a piece that wasn’t too wide but still had some height to it. This piece fit the space like it was made for it!

Next up are the accents and accessories. A lamp was a must in this space. Since it’s in the center of our house it’s a pretty dark space so we definitely needed some extra light. Faux plants are a no brainer for me. I like to bring the outside in as much as possible. Again this is a darker area of our home, so faux greenery was key. I was originally going to put a bench in this space before finding the chest, and I did like the idea of a little space to sit if I needed to tie a shoe for a kiddo (or maybe sit one of them in timeout). I came across this GORGEOUS rattan stool on one of my many Target runs and had to bring it home. The color was perfect and it added some much needed texture to the space. I’ve linked my entry mirrors before but they will also be included below. The recycled glass jugs are unfortunately no longer available but I will link similar items. I will also link some of my favorite faux fiddle leaf fig trees. I purchased mine years ago from a designer who no longer needed it in a model home, so I can’t link it. Of the three trees linked, I actually own two of them and they are all from the same brand.

Let’s talk briefly about the blue books. I documented my Half Price Books run to find these babies in my Insta stories. It’s my favorite spot to find affordable books for decorating. What I do is kind of lean in and look at the color of the book covers under the jackets until I find the color scheme I’m looking for. For this space I was looking for a particular shade of dusty blue, which made the hunt a little harder. Navy blues, blacks, grays and tans are definitely the easiest color palette to shop for. I find I have the best luck in the History and Science sections, but for these blue books I lucked out in the Art section! If you don’t like the font or color of the title on the spine, just turn them around so you see the pages instead (which is what I did here). There’s really no need to spend a fortune on antique books! They don’t have to be old to work as a decor piece.

Let’s talk about the rug. In my opinion a rug is a great way to finish out and complete a space. If you’re decorating an area and feel like something is missing, add in a rug and I bet you it will feel complete! They anchor an area and help to sort of frame the space. My entryway area was tricky when it came to deciding on a rug shape. I was originally going to use a runner, but with the way my staircase curves and sticks out at the bottom I would have had to nudge the runner as far to the right as possible. But then my actual entryway space would only have the runner going through part of it, leaving the area with the chest and stool with no anchor. I decided to take a risk and go with a round rug. I wasn’t sure how it would look given that only one side of my entryway is actually rounded. I ordered this gorgeous gray and ivory 6′ round rug by Unique Loom and was surprised by how perfectly it worked! The color is neutral but the pattern adds just enough interest to the space and I couldn’t be happier with it!

That’s all for links! There are a few key takeaways I like to use when decorating entryways. Mirrors to reflect light and make the space feel larger (because entryways are usually narrow), greenery and plants to bring the outside in, texture for visual interest and finally a rug to frame out the space! Use these as your framework and then of course add in your own personal style with the furniture and accessories. I hope this was helpful! Enjoy your Spring decorating 🙂
