Favorite Faux Trees

Happy New Year! Things have been quiet here on the blog over the holidays. It’s such a busy, chaotic time and I try my best to be as present and in the moment as possible for my kids and my husband. But it’s a new year and I’ve got lots of fun and useful content planned for you all! First up is a post I’ve had in the works for a long time. It’s no secret that I love to bring the outdoors in as much as possible when I’m decorating. One of the easiest ways to do that is with plants and greenery!

Nothing comes close to the beauty of a real tree, but the maintenance can be tough, and sometimes our spaces just don’t have the right light requirements for real trees or plants. Sometimes faux is the way to go, plus you don’t have to worry about watering or keeping anything alive. The investment for a faux tree usually costs more up front, but it’s not going to die on you and it can easily be moved around to different spaces in your home without having to worry about drafts, sunlight, etc. They are a lot more versatile, in my opinion.

The trick with faux trees is finding that balance between price and quality. Some of the cheaper trees look exactly that – cheap. You want them to look as realistic as possible without breaking the bank. I avoid trees with foliage that is a bright, limey green and instead look for more rich and deep green colors. You also don’t want the leaves to look too shiny, or too matte. Real greenery usually falls somewhere in the middle. It’s tough getting a good idea of this from online photos, which is why I wanted to curate this list for you! I personally own a few of these trees, and the others have really good reviews.

I have trees in almost every room in my house. They are GREAT at filling in awkward, empty corners and add so much visual interest to a space. They’re also great for defining a change in space or breaking up open concept areas. For example, my breakfast room off the kitchen is open to my living room. I have a small fiddle leaf fig tree placed right in-between to help divide the spaces.

65″ Indoor/Outdoor Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree

Fiddle leaf fig trees are great and have been very popular over the past few years, but don’t be afraid to branch out! There are so many beautiful tree species out there, so don’t get boxed in to one variety. I tend to prefer trees that are more sparse and have unique shapes. I also tend to stay away from tropical species (think palms, banana trees, etc.) because I just don’t feel like they fit in with my personal decor style and the architectural details of my home. But that’s just a personal preference!

Be sure to keep your space in mind when selecting a tree height and shape. If you have a tight corner, you’re going to want to choose a tree that has a narrow profile. If you’re placing a tree right by a window, you might want to consider a tree that is more sparse so as not to block natural light. Keep your ceiling heights in mind as well. A tree that’s too short might not fill out the space like you’re wanting.

On to the good stuff, the trees! I’ve included a lot of variety here beyond the beloved fiddle leaf fig. Though there are plenty of those included if that’s what you’re looking for! A lot of these trees come in various heights so you can customize to fit your room’s needs. The tree in my dining room is currently sold out everywhere, but I’ve included one that looks very similar. I will be sure to update this post as soon as it’s available again!

I’m going to also include my favorite baskets and vases to place your trees in. The basic black planter that they come with is usually small and unattractive. Placing your tree in a different vessel instantly dresses them up and makes them look more custom and polished! Just be sure to take a close look at the tree’s pot size to make sure it will fit in the vessel you want to place it in.
